I have always journalled – ever since I was little, I was writing down my thoughts and feelings ALL the time or collaging bits and pieces. I had only heard of the term ‘Junk Journalling’ last year and I fell in love with journalling all over again. I am usually the kind of person to write page after page of things that I’ve been up to, what I am looking forward to, pockets of inspiration or hopes and dreams. Now I have been leaning in to purely visual and fun spreads which have been such a wonderful creative burst for me. I already had a ton of supplies so it ended up being very easy for me to get a junk journal kit together (see my kit here) and I’d previously been reallllllly into scrapbooking not too long ago so it really was SO easy for me to get my supplies together, lay them all out and make sweet spreads. I’ve also made some very Cute Junk Kits so it’s super easy for you to get started.
I’ve found such joy in creating the portable journal kit to take to a class, a cafe, a pals house or even just to my lounge room while I watch TV. People are always so scared to do this in public (I sure was) but then my pal Nicholla and I headed to her local cafe, we chose the biggest table (the cafe was pretty empty) and spread out all of our supplies. The lovely owner popped over and gave us paper coffee cups to put our scraps and offcuts in to and we ordered potatoes, juice and coffee. It was the most MAGICAL morning journalling together in public and we really weren’t bothered at all if people were looking at us.
I’ve put together some of my very favourite journal spreads here in hope that you get inspired to do something similar or that it tickles your brain or heart in a nice way. It can be so hard as a creative to just loosen up and PLAY but I deeply encourage it, in moments where I let myself have a little palette cleanser or just to make something for me – I find that my heart is a lot more full and I am more energised for other things.
Take some time for yourself – create a little journal time capsule – do it with friends – write every detail – or no details – think of elderly you stumbling upon it down the track – or think of you in 2 months time rediscovering sweet moments.
